The Seri Buat Archipelago is a stunning collection of pearly volcanic islands that are mostly sheltered from the elements and peppered with pristine reefs and even the ocassional ship wrecks. An ideal scuba diving paradise. The islands include Tioman, Dayang, Aur, Harimau and Tengah.
Manta rays and whale sharks, ocean turtles and dolphins are spotted frequently enough to be able to say that the islands are along their migration paths. In fact, while on a diving weekend last year, my girlfriend spotted a whale shark. I’d opted out of that dive. (Great idea - not.)
I was diving off Tioman a month ago and the water visibility was unparalleled, I feel rivaling that of Sipadan. These months are known the be the best months, since the weather is calm, no churning around of the bottom and there’s little rain, meaning no sediment is getting washed down from the islands.
Anyway, long story. Basically, I’m saying that the diving here is not only superb, but affordable too.
That said, of course I can’t guarantee that there will be the big pelagics that you want to see. You have to be a little lucky too.
