Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Hari Raya is the Malay term for the Muslim celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.  It is a three day celebration at the end of  the Muslim month of Ramadan. On the first day, prayers are held throughout the country. Families gather, seeking forgiveness from elders and loved ones, typically dressed traditional garb. Festive dishes are made for Hari Raya, including satay (beef, chicken or mutton kebabs), ketupat or lontong (rice cakes in coconut or banana leaves), rendang (spicy marinated beef or chicken) and more.

In Brunei it is only at this time when Istana Nurul Iman is open to the public, providing the public and other visitors the opportunity to meet His Majesty, the Sultan of Brunei and the Royal Family and see the world’s largest residential palace.
