Deepavali (Diwali)

Deepavali or Diwali is celebrated for 5 days according to the Hindu calendar. It begins in late September/October it ends in late October/Novermber (depending on the aforementioned Hindu calendar). The first day is Dhan Teras and the last day is called Yama Dvitiya.Each day marks one celebration of the six principal stories associated with the festival.

The festival is a significant 5-day festival in Hinduism and Sikhism and is popularly known as the Festival of Lights. It is traditional to light small clay, oil-filled lamps signifying the triumph of good over evil. Many will wear new clothes and share sweets/snacks with each other.

It is an official holiday in India, Guyana, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar and Singapore.
